The Endocrine Edge™
Hormone Balance for Women in Charlotte, NC
PCOS, cycles, PMS, thyroid, and stress hormones, treated at the root.
Irregular or painful periods, a week every month that doesn't feel like you, acne and cravings that won't settle, or fatigue that labs keep calling normal. Dr. Natasha Ryan, a functional medicine doctor with more than 20 years in practice, uses advanced hormone testing to find what's driving your symptoms, then builds a plan to correct it at the source.
Sound familiar?
It's not "just" your hormones.
Hormone symptoms are common, but they're not something you have to live with. Each one is a signal pointing to a specific system that's out of balance, and the right testing usually shows which one.
- Irregular, late, or missing periods
- Acne, excess hair growth, or thinning hair
- A week before your period that doesn't feel like you
- Period pain that keeps you home
- Cravings, crashes, and weight around the middle
- Heavy periods, breast tenderness, and mood swings
- Tired, cold, and puffy with "normal" thyroid labs
- Wired at night, exhausted in the morning
- Running on empty after years of stress
- A diagnosis like PCOS, with no plan beyond the pill
Why it's connected
One system, not separate parts.
Your brain, thyroid, adrenal glands, and ovaries constantly talk to each other. Blood sugar, stress, sleep, and gut health feed into all of them. That's why one imbalance rarely stays on its own. High insulin raises testosterone and disrupts ovulation. Chronic stress shifts cortisol and slows thyroid function. A sluggish thyroid makes cycles heavier and less predictable.
Treating each symptom separately, with one prescription for acne, another for cycles, and another for mood, often misses what's connecting them. The Endocrine Edge looks at the whole system together, so the plan addresses the cause rather than the symptoms one at a time.
How The Endocrine Edge works
We don't guess. We test.
Initial consultation
An hour on your symptoms, cycle history, stress, sleep, diet, medications, and what you've already tried. Then Dr. Ryan chooses the testing that fits your situation.
Advanced testing
Sex hormones and androgens, a full thyroid panel with antibodies, cortisol rhythm, and metabolic markers, timed to your cycle where it matters.
Your custom protocol
A plan built on your results: blood sugar, stress and sleep, nutrition, targeted supplements, and medication where it's the right tool.
Ongoing support
Follow-ups, cycle and symptom tracking, and repeat testing where it's useful, so you can see what's changed.
What we look at
The tests behind the plan.
The specific tests depend on your symptoms and history. These are the ones most commonly used in the Endocrine Edge.
- Sex hormonesEstradiol, progesterone, FSH, and LH, timed to the right day of your cycle
- AndrogensTotal and free testosterone, SHBG, and DHEA-S, which drive acne, hair changes, and PCOS
- Full thyroid panelTSH, free T4, free T3, and TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies, not just TSH
- Cortisol rhythmSaliva or dried urine testing across the day, when stress and sleep patterns matter
- Metabolic markersGlucose, insulin, and A1c, plus a glucose tolerance test when PCOS is suspected
- NutrientsFerritin, vitamin D, B12, and others that affect cycles, thyroid, and energy
PCOS, now PMOS
More than your ovaries.
In 2026, PCOS was renamed polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS. The new name says what women with PCOS have known for years: it's a whole-body hormone and metabolic condition, not a problem with ovarian cysts.
That's why a birth control pill alone isn't a plan. Care starts with insulin resistance, inflammation, and the stress axis, the drivers behind irregular cycles, acne, and stubborn weight.
PMS, PMDD, and painful periods
Your cycle isn't something to push through.
Severe premenstrual mood changes are usually not a hormone level problem. They're a sensitivity to normal monthly shifts, and they respond to treatment. Period pain that keeps you home can point to endometriosis or adenomyosis, which no longer require surgery to start treatment.
Tracking your cycle alongside testing turns a confusing month into a clear pattern, and a clear plan.

Common questions
Before you book.
Do I need a diagnosis before I book?
No. Many women come in with symptoms and no clear answer yet, or with a diagnosis like PCOS and no plan beyond the pill. The first consultation and testing are designed to find what's driving your symptoms.
How are hormones tested?
Most testing is done with blood work, including a full thyroid panel, sex hormones, androgens, and metabolic markers. When the timing of cortisol through the day matters, saliva or dried urine testing can show your daily rhythm. Dr. Ryan chooses the tests after your initial consultation.
Is The Endocrine Edge for perimenopause?
Perimenopause and menopause have their own program, The Menopause Edge™. The Endocrine Edge is for hormone imbalances earlier in life or outside that transition: PCOS, irregular or painful cycles, PMS and PMDD, and thyroid and adrenal concerns. If you're not sure which fits, the discovery call will sort it out.
Do I need to live in Charlotte?
No. Dr. Ryan sees women in person in Charlotte, NC and virtually across all 50 states. Lab work can be done at a lab near you, and saliva or urine kits are done at home.
Is this covered by insurance?
The practice is cash-pay. HSA and FSA funds are accepted, and third-party financing may be available. Pricing is discussed openly on your complimentary discovery call.
